Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Novelty silver plate cruet sets gained widespread popularity during the late nineteenth century, particularly during the Victorian era. Manufacturers crafted functional dining accessories shaped as sporting items, animals, or everyday objects to introduce conversation pieces to formal dinner tables.

These sets were primarily manufactured using electroplated nickel silver (EPNS) or sterling silver. Salt cellars frequently featured gilded interiors to protect the underlying metal from corrosion caused by chemical reactions with salt.

Authentic pieces typically display makers marks, electroplate stamps such as EPNS, or registration numbers stamped on the base. Examination of construction details, such as hand-chased ornamentation and period-appropriate wear on high points, helps verify age.

An equestrian cruet set serves as a distinctive decorative accent on a sideboard, bar cart, or dining table tray. It adds historical character to modern traditional, country house, or eclectic table settings.

Clean silver-plated pieces gently using a soft cloth and a specialised silver polish, avoiding abrasive cleaners that strip the plating. Residues from salt or mustard should be washed immediately with mild soapy water and thoroughly dried to prevent tarnish and pitting.
