Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Bergama prayer rugs originate from the Bergama region in Western Anatolia and are characterized by hand-knotted wool construction, geometric patterns, and a central arch motif known as a mihrab. These carpets traditionally utilise natural dye palettes featuring rich terracotta, ivory, and deep indigo shades.

Traditional Anatolian carpets are typically hand-knotted using local hand-spun wool for both the pile and the foundation structure. The yarns were historically coloured using vegetable and plant-based dyes, giving the textile subtle variations in tone known as abrash.

Authenticity can be determined by examining the back of the rug to confirm hand-knotted weaving rather than machine backing. Look for slight asymmetry in the geometric motifs, soft hand-spun wool pile, and natural colour variations within the yarn.

Small Anatolian rugs work exceptionally well layered over neutral sisal carpets, placed in entryways, or positioned beside a bed to add colour and texture. Larger or highly detailed examples can also be wall-mounted on wooden rods as decorative textile artwork.

Vacuum regularly using a suction-only setting without a rotary beater bar to avoid pulling the wool fibres. Spills should be blotted immediately with a clean dry cloth, and professional cleaning by a specialist textile restorer is recommended every few years.
