Gorgeous little golden drops which date back to the 19th century. The drops themselves are richly gilded silver and quite likely started out life as a pair of tiny buttons, with solid nine-carat gold wires added later.
Around 1880 many gold treasures dating back to the ancient Etruscan era (700-300 BC) were being discovered in Italian tombs, leading to the emergence of the Etruscan Revival as Victorian jewellers sought to recreate the style. Craftsmen employed considerable skill to make finely detailed pieces using multiple gold working techniques such as granulation, filigree and cannetille.
The earrings are in very good antique condition.
Size: Approximately 2cm from the top of the ear wire to the bottom of the drop. The little dangles measure approx 1 x 1cm.
Weight: 2.3g.
