Dealers Notes

"Heritage Quality Without the High Street Mark-up"

Hodgson Antiques (www.hodgsonantiques.co.uk) has been in the antique trade and dealing independently since 2012. Based in Derbyshire countryside operating solely online, we specialise in antique and vintage lighting, table lamps, ceiling lights, chandeliers, wall lights and lanterns together with some selectively sourced decorative items. We source items from around the UK, Europe and the rest of the world.

We believe that acquiring exceptional, fully restored period lighting shouldn't require paying premium high-street showroom prices. By operating entirely online and focusing our resources into our own dedicated restoration workshop, we have completely reimagined the traditional antique gallery model. We have a significant structural pricing advantage over traditional brick-and-mortar storefronts, which enables us to offer the exact high quality and meticulous restoration you find in the high street showrooms – delivered directly from our workshop at transparent competitive trade prices passing substantial savings onto our customers.

All our antique lights are fully overhauled, professionally cleaned, rewired and PAT tested to UK standards ready for installation. They are supplied with period-style matching aged fixing brass screws, fittings.

Our lighting is safely wrapped in heavy-duty protective packaging and dispatched the next day via premium tracked courier within mainland UK (delivery charge applies at checkout). As an independent workshop, we highly appreciate direct bank transfers (BACS). If you prefer to pay directly via bank transfer, we will happily waive the delivery fee as a thank you. Please contact us directly via the email link or phone number below before clicking 'Buy Now' to receive your free shipping invoice

Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

FAQs

Maintain the finish by dusting gently with a soft, dry microfibre cloth, avoiding harsh chemical cleaners or abrasive materials that can strip the gilt surface. Ensure electrical components are periodically inspected by a qualified electrician, particularly when dealing with vintage or rewired fixtures.

These fixtures serve as sculptural focal points and pair effectively with both contemporary and traditional aesthetics. They can be mounted flanking a fireplace, mirror, or doorway to introduce organic metallic texture and warm ambient lighting into a room.

Authentic pieces generally exhibit hand-cut metal details, subtle irregularities indicative of artisan craftsmanship, and aged patination on the metallic finish. Older wiring methods, traditional screw types, and maker stamps or foundry marks on the reverse mounting plates also help verify authenticity.

Authentic period pieces are typically constructed from hand-forged iron or brass sheet metal that has been assembled using traditional soldering and welding techniques. The metallic surface is usually finished with applied gold leaf, gilt paint, or bronze powder to achieve a rich, textured appearance.

Wheat sheaf motifs gained prominence in French decorative arts during the 18th century, symbolising abundance and agricultural prosperity. They experienced a major revival in mid-20th-century Parisian interior design, particularly through makers associated with Maison Jars and Maison Bagues, who crafted sculptural gilt metal lighting fixtures.
