Silver-mounted glass stands became popular in the late 19th and early 20th centuries to protect dining and tea tables from heat and moisture while adding an elegant decorative element to afternoon tea service.

These pieces typically combine sterling silver or silver plate with heavy-pressed or cut glass, often featuring intricate pierced metalwork or mounts.

Authentic pieces from the early 20th century often feature period hallmarking on the silver mount, genuine patina, and traditional manufacturing techniques such as hand-piercing or specific glass-moulding patterns.

This item can be displayed flat on a sideboard or coffee table as a decorative tray for small objects, or utilized in its traditional context during formal dining and tea presentations.

Clean the glass with mild soapy water and use a non-abrasive silver cloth specifically designed for plated or sterling silver to maintain the metalwork without damaging the surrounding glass.
