Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

FAQs

Victorian silver-plated items, particularly those produced by prominent makers like Elkington & Co during the 19th century, marked a significant advancement in electroplating technology, allowing broader access to ornate domestic metalwork.

These pieces are typically constructed from a base metal such as brass or copper, which is then silver-plated and accented with selective gilding, often featuring cast components assembled and chased by hand.

Preserve silver-plated pieces by dusting regularly with a soft cloth, avoiding harsh chemical dips, and using specialised silver polish sparingly to protect the delicate plating and parcel gilding.

They can be used as centrepieces on dining tables, displayed on mantelpieces, or styled on sideboards to introduce metallic contrast and historical texture into contemporary spaces.

Authenticity is verified through makers marks, date ciphers, and specific numerical codes stamped into the base, alongside the weight and quality of the chased detailing typical of the manufacturer.
