Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A claret jug is a glass or crystal vessel fitted with a metal spout, handle, and lid, designed specifically for serving red wines, particularly Bordeaux. These vessels gained widespread popularity during the nineteenth and twentieth centuries as essential elements of formal dining and barware settings.

Claret jugs typically combine a hand-cut glass or lead crystal body with a sterling silver or electroplated metal mount. The top section incorporates a hinged lid, pouring spout, and an integrated handle attached securely to the neck collar.

Authentic silver-mounted examples display stamped hallmark impressions on the collar or lid, indicating the maker, silver purity, assay office, and date letter. Additionally, hand-cut glass bodies feature distinct sharpness along the faceted edges compared to mass-produced mould-blown alternatives.

Position the vessel on a dining room sideboard, drinks trolley, or tray alongside vintage glassware to create a structured display. Combining reflective silver elements with clear cut glass adds visual texture and depth to contemporary entertaining spaces.

Hand wash the interior of the glass reservoir with warm water and mild soap, ensuring complete drying to prevent water spots or clouding. Polish the silver mount using a soft cotton cloth and silver polish, avoiding harsh chemical contact with the glass surface.
