English delftware is a type of tin-glazed earthenware made in England from the late 16th century through the late 18th century, heavily influenced by imported Chinese porcelain and Dutch Delft pottery.

These items were crafted from a local clay body, coated with an opaque white tin glaze that provided a canvas for hand-painted mineral pigments, and then fired in a kiln.

Authentic pieces typically exhibit characteristic glaze imperfections, crazing, foot rim chips revealing the earthenware body, and hand-painted brushwork rather than transfer printing.

They can be displayed on plate racks, mounted on walls using secure hangers, or styled on mantelpieces and open shelving to introduce historic texture and colour.

Antique ceramics should be dusted gently with a soft, dry brush and washed by hand only when necessary using lukewarm water and mild soap, avoiding harsh chemicals and dishwashers.
