Measuring 2ft 4?� wide, it is of smaller proportions than most Victorian camphor chests. The trunk incorporates the original cast brass strapwork and studs to the corners, front, sides and rear, as well as the original locking latch to the lid. The lid also retains its original recessed ring-pull brass recessed handle, along with the original working lock (with key). The Victorian camphor chest would have originally been used to secure valuables from theft whilst in transit. The interior of the camphor wood trunk comprises a single-plank top and floor and retains the original candle box with hinged lid. The sides of the box retain the original brass carrying handles. The chest is raised on small bracket feet. The Victorian camphor chest would make an ideal coffee table, TV stand, or ottoman at the foot of the bed.
