Cruet sets for oil and vinegar became prominent on European dining tables during the 18th and 19th centuries, housed in silver frames or designed as paired vessels to hold condiments for individual seasoning.

These items typically feature hand-blown or mould-blown clear glass vessels paired with hallmarked sterling silver collars, mounts, and stoppers, often secured with cork bases.

Authenticity is determined by examining the silver for official assay hallmarks, inspecting the glass for pontil marks, wear patterns, and irregularities typical of period manufacturing techniques.

Such pieces function as decorative table centrepieces on dining tables or sideboards, reflecting light through the glass to add texture and historical interest to transitional or classic spaces.

Glass should be washed gently with lukewarm water and mild detergent, while silver mounts require non-abrasive polishing cloths to maintain the metal without damaging the surrounding glass.
