Sold by: Woodbridge Antiques

Edwardian silver sovereign case in a lozenge shape and beautifully engraved to top and base. The lid has a shield shaped empty cartouche in the centre; the spring loaded hinged lid opens with a push button and there is a generous loop for attachment.

When the lid is open two spring loaded sovereign compartments are visible to house a sovereign and a half sovereign side by side. Partial hallmarks on both of the compartment rims are clear and crisp, and there is a fabulous neat engine turned pattern engraved to the sprung centre pieces.

Hallmarks to the underneath of the lid are visible for the Birmingham Assay Office, date mark for 1902, the Lion Passant indicating the finest sterling silver, plus the maker''s mark for Williams Ltd.

The superb craftmanship is very evident here, and the case is in lovely antique collector''s condition, with no dents or marks to the silver. The lid opens and closes perfectly.
