Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Decorative desk accessories gained immense popularity in the late Victorian and Edwardian eras, as personal correspondence increased. Silversmiths crafted novelty paper knives featuring sporting motifs, gamebirds, and wildlife to cater to affluent estate owners and countryside enthusiasts.

High-grade letter openers are traditionally cast or struck in sterling silver, which consists of 92.5% pure silver alloyed with copper for durability. The handle detail is often achieved via investment casting or hand-chasing, leaving a smooth tapered blade for opening envelopes.

Authentic British pieces bear official assay office hallmarks stamped directly onto the metal, indicating the silver purity mark, town mark, date letter, and makers initials. Plated items usually lack these official government stamps and may show base metal wear along the blade edges.

Position the piece atop a stack of leather-bound books, within an executive desk tray, or beside a blotter in a home study. Combining metalwork desk accessories with natural wood and leather accents creates a refined, curated workplace aesthetic.

Maintain silver desk accessories by wiping them regularly with a soft microfibre cloth designed for polishing precious metals. Store the item in its lined presentation box when not in use to minimise exposure to humidity and prevent oxidisation.
