Antique Silver Sovereign Case Hallmarked Birmingham 1911 A L Dennison

Status: This item has been sold
Sold by: Woodbridge Antiques

This stylish circular sovereign case has fine engine turned engraving to the front and back. The sides and a circular central cartouche are in smooth polished silver which combine with the engraving in a classic Edwardian style; a precursor to the Art Deco styles so popular in subsequent decades.

The sovereign case has a spring loaded hinged lid which opens with a push button at the top. It also has a loop for attachment to a chain.

When the lid is open a single sprung sovereign compartment is revealed with the same neat engine turned engraving to the central panel. Superbly crafted, this case is in lovely antique collector''s condition. There are no dents or marks to the silver and opens easily and closes with a good snap.

Hallmarks: hallmarked inside the lid and on the sprung compartment as sterling silver, Birmingham assay office, 1911 with the makers mark of Aaron Luffkin Dennison. These marks are repeated on the button and loop, though the date letter here is...
