Size: 3ft 11in x 1ft 7in (120 x 47cm) excluding tassels.
Antique Ersari Beshir Turkmen torba with double rams horn design.
Circa 1880.
Torba are shallow wall bags used mainly in tents or yurts for the storage of personal belongings, they were also used to decorate the sides of a camel in a wedding procession. Often only the piled face survives and the plain weave backs have been removed as with this example.
This example has six rows of three double rams horn devices on a rose madder ground, note the row of stars along the base above the tassels.
The torba is in excellent condition with very slight even wear and good pile, most of the original tassels remain as do the hanging cords attached to the sides.
