Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Folk art candlesticks from this period are characterized by hand-carved, non-industrial production methods created by regional craftspeople or self-taught artisans. They often feature vernacular ornamentation such as chip carving, spiral turnings, and geometric patterns that reflect local traditions rather than mass-market styles.

These pieces were typically crafted from locally sourced hardwoods or softwoods, including oak, pine, walnut, and fruitwood. The surfaces were frequently treated with hand-applied stains, wax finishes, or dark varnishes to enhance timber grain and protect the carved details.

Authentic pieces display subtle irregularities in carving depth and symmetry, indicative of hand tools rather than machine precision. Look for natural age patina, historical wax accumulation in recessed carving lines, and wear consistent with handling around the stem and base.

Carved timber candlesticks add organic warmth and tactile contrast to contemporary spaces. Display them individually on modern sideboards, group them along a dining table, or place them against neutral plaster walls to emphasize their sculpted silhouette.

Keep carved wooden items away from direct heat sources and high humidity to prevent timber warping or cracking. Dust regularly with a soft dry brush to clean intricate carvings, and apply a neutral beeswax polish annually to maintain surface hydration.
