Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

FAQs

Silver components should be cleaned sparingly using a professional non-abrasive silver cloth to maintain the patina without damaging the hallmarks or surface detail. Avoid using liquid dips which can strip the aged oxidisation from recessed areas.

This piece works effectively when contrasted with modern minimalist furniture or integrated into traditional schemes such as a gentlemans library or classic living room, paired with a patterned or neutral shade to balance the polished metal.

Authentic pieces generally feature clear hallmarks stamped on the metal components detailing the assay office, date letter, and makers mark. Additionally, construction methods such as weighted bases, hand-cut threading, and period wiring adaptations provide clues to authenticity.

Authentic period column lamps are typically constructed from solid sterling silver, silver plate, brass, or bronze, often featuring weighted bases filled with materials like plaster or wood to ensure stability.

Corinthian column lamps are based on the classical Greek architectural order characterised by ornate capitals decorated with acanthus leaves. They gained significant popularity during the Victorian and Edwardian periods as domestic electric lighting and oil lamps were adapted from classical motifs.
