An enchanting 19th Century patinated bronze statue / lamp of a young semi clad putti holding aloft foliage, mounted on a wooden base. Signed ; Aug. Moreau.

Auguste Moreau (1834 – 1917) was a French sculptor born in Dijon. The third and youngest son of sculptor and painter Jean-Baptiste Moreau, Auguste began creating sculptural works alongside his older brothers Hippolyte and Mathurin.

During the nineteenth century, French foundries produced cast bronze sculptures designed to incorporate gas or electrical fittings. Artists such as Auguste Moreau created classical figures, including putti and nymphs, that bridged fine sculptural art and functional domestic lighting.
