Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This pair of French Rococo style wall lights dates from the 1920 period, formed from gilded brass. The design presents a leaf tapering cartouche backplate, issuing leaf-clad scrolling twin arms terminating in decorative circular bobeche drip pans holding candle bulbs. The metallic surface carries a gold colour with a crisp gilded patination. Each light measures 31 cm high, 24 cm wide, and 14 cm deep. Placement suits a narrow wall space within a French chateau interior scheme, positioned to provide layered accent illumination in hallways, living spaces, or bedrooms. The fittings accept electrical wiring and mount via the included aged brass screws.

FAQs

French Rococo style wall lights, often referred to as appliques, feature asymmetric scrollwork, acanthus foliage motifs, cartouche backplates, and fluid, curving branches designed during or inspired by the 18th-century reign of Louis XV.

Traditional French wall sconces were typically cast in bronze or brass and finished with mercury gilding (ormolu) or electroplated gold leaf to produce a reflective, durable metallic surface.

Authentic period pieces show signs of hand-casting, heavy construction weight, precise chasing details in the metalwork, and natural oxidisation or wear to the gilded layer on the reverse.

These wall lights can be mounted flanking a fireplace mirror, positioning a pair on either side of a hallway console, or framing artwork in a dining room to introduce warm metallic accents.

Gilt surfaces should be dusted regularly with a soft dry cloth or gentle brush, avoiding abrasive chemical cleaners, metal polishes, or water which can strip or tarnish the delicate gold finish.
