FAQs

Venetian painted and gilded pieces typically feature hand-carved wooden bases finished with polychrome paint and applied gold leaf, reflecting the opulent artistic traditions of historic Italy.

These pieces are generally crafted from solid hardwoods such as lime or beech, hand-carved, gessoed, and finished with layers of tempera paint and metal leaf gilding.

Authenticity is determined by examining the hand-carved details, the natural ageing and oxidisation of the gesso and paint layers, and traditional joinery methods rather than modern fasteners.

They can be used to introduce texture and historical contrast into modern spaces, often paired with simple, neutral shades to balance the intricate detailing of the bases.

Dust gently with a soft, dry microfibre cloth, avoiding any liquid cleaners, chemical solvents, or direct exposure to strong sunlight to protect the fragile surface finish.
