Archival Detail
Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Louis XVI style furniture is distinguished by neoclassical design principles, featuring straight lines, geometric symmetry, fluted legs, and classical motifs such as acanthus leaves, rosettes, and ribbons. Emerging in late 18th-century France, it represented a reaction against the extravagant curves of the preceding Rococo era.

These cabinets traditionally incorporate hardwoods such as mahogany, kingwood, or tulipwood veneers, often decorated with gilded bronze (ormolu) mounts and marquetry inlay. Upper sections may feature painted Vernis Martin panels or marble surfaces.

Authentic pieces exhibit precise dovetail joinery, hand-cast bronze mounts with chased details, natural wood patination, and proportional neoclassical symmetry. Stamped maker marks from prominent Parisian cabinetmakers may also be present on the carcass framework.

Position the piece as a focal point against a neutral accent wall in a hallway or drawing room to highlight its gilded details and silhouette. Pair it with understated contemporary artwork or refined table lamps to complement its intricate craftsmanship without overwhelming the space.

Dust the wooden surfaces and metal mounts regularly with a dry microfibre cloth, avoiding liquid polishes or chemical cleaners that can damage lacquered varnish or original gilding. Maintain stable indoor humidity levels to prevent veneer lifting or wood movement.
