Mark Seabrook Antiques has dated this piece to the 16th Century.
.... as it was made by simply joining planks of oak together with large hand made iron clout nails...it still has the original blacksmith made wrought iron strap hinges and the original wooden lock....beautifully decorated with intricate scratch and punchwork , combined with deep triple line decoration...all the planks are original and have gained a natural colour & patina.....so hard to find a coffer from this period, that is still totally original.
