Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A novelty silver pheasant pepper pot is a functional table condiment container crafted in the form of a game bird. Popularised in Continental Europe during the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, these objects feature cast or chased silver bodies designed to dispense ground pepper through small perforations.

These pieces are typically produced from solid silver alloys, such as sterling (.925) or Continental standards including .833 and .800 fineness. Construction involves casting for the head and feet, alongside hand-chasing to replicate natural feather textures.

Authentic Dutch silver from this era bears official purity hallmarks, such as the lion passant mark or numerical purity stamps like .833. Additional indicators include makers marks, key marks indicating export, and period-appropriate hand-chased surface detailing.

Position the piece on a dining table centrepiece or a sideboard alongside contemporary glassware to create visual contrast. It also works as a decorative accent within a traditional dresser display or gentlemans study.

Clean gently using a soft cloth and a specialised, non-abrasive silver polish to remove tarnish without stripping fine chased details. Ensure all condiment residues are thoroughly removed after use to prevent corrosion from residual salts or spices.
