Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Sheraton Revival refers to late nineteenth and early twentieth-century furniture crafted in the manner of eighteenth-century designer Thomas Sheraton. The style is characterised by slender proportions, straight geometric lines, square tapered legs, and extensive use of satinwood veneers with delicate marquetry inlays.

These bureaux were predominantly crafted using satinwood veneers over pine or oak carcases, accented with crossbanded borders of rosewood, tulipwood, or mahogany. Additional features include brass drop handles, brass pierced galleries, and fine marquetry inlays made from dyed hardwoods.

Authentic period examples exhibit hand-cut dovetail joints, oak or mahogany drawer linings, smooth operation of the solid wood cylinder mechanism, and fine hand-cut marquetry rather than modern printed transfers. Brass hardware from the period typically shows natural patination and hand-finished casting details.

Place the bureau against a focal wall in a home office, drawing room, or hallway to highlight its warm timber tone. Complement the piece with classic table lighting, botanical artwork, or minimal contemporary ceramics to balance the ornate marquetry.

Keep the furniture away from direct sunlight and strong heat sources to prevent the satinwood veneer from fading or drying out. Dust regularly with a soft dry cloth and apply a natural beeswax polish occasionally, working in the direction of the wood grain.
