Silver tea strainers became popular in the 18th and 19th centuries with the rise of loose-leaf tea drinking habits, designed to catch leaves poured from the teapot.

These items are typically crafted from sterling silver using traditional silversmithing techniques, featuring pierced or perforated bowls and cast decorative handles.

Authentic pieces are identified through hallmark stamps indicating the metal purity, assay office, makers mark, and date letter.

It can be displayed on a dining table centre or sideboard as part of a curated display of metallic tableware and antique objects.

Preservation involves regular gentle cleaning with a specialised silver cloth to prevent tarnish and storing them in a dry, tarnish-resistant environment.
