Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A Georgian sea chest is a wooden storage trunk built during the late 18th to early 19th century for maritime officers and sailors. These chests feature sloped sides to maintain stability on pitching ships and were frequently made of aromatic camphorwood to repel moisture and insects.

Maritime chests were typically constructed from robust hardwoods such as camphorwood, teak, or oak. Hardware often included brass or iron keyhole escutcheons, corner brackets, and hand-woven rope handles called beckets.

Authentic examples feature hand-cut dovetail joints, sloped side construction, thick timber boards, and genuine historical wear around the base and lid. Original camphorwood pieces retain a distinct aromatic scent when opened.

An antique sea chest functions effectively as a coffee table in a living room, an entry storage bench in a hallway, or placed at the foot of a bed for linens.

Maintain the timber by dusting regularly with a soft dry cloth and applying a high-quality beeswax polish once or twice a year. Keep the piece away from direct heat sources and excessive moisture to prevent warping.
