Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Glazed hall lanterns originated in the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries primarily to protect candles and oil lamps from draughts in large entryways. Over time, they became prominent decorative statements in corridors, stairwells, and entrance halls, evolving through Georgian, Victorian, and Gothic Revival design movements.

Traditional lanterns were constructed using cast iron, wrought iron, brass, or lead for the structural frame. Clear or hand-blown glass panels were inserted into the framework, and internal fitments were adapted over time from candle sockets to gas and electric fittings.

Authentic period lanterns often display signs of natural surface oxidisation, hand-soldered or riveted joinery, and minor irregularities in the glass panes. Look for original cast detailing, historical rewiring marks, or aged brass elements consistent with period manufacturing techniques.

Glazed lanterns are frequently suspended in tall stairwells, entry foyers, or above kitchen islands to create an architectural focal point. Their open glazed structure allows light to disperse broadly while maintaining visual clarity across the room.

Clean glass panels regularly using a soft microfiber cloth and a mild glass cleaner, avoiding contact with the metal frame. The patinated metal should be dusted with a dry brush and kept free from moisture to preserve its natural surface finish.
