Victorian dressing mirrors became popular during the 19th century as advancements in silver manufacturing and glass production made ornate vanity items accessible to the expanding middle class.

These pieces typically feature sterling silver repousse or cast frames mounted on wooden backs, often supported by velvet or leather-covered struts with silver hinges.

Authenticity is verified through British hallmarks stamped on the silver, indicating the assay office, date letter, and sterling standard, alongside period-appropriate construction methods and genuine age-related wear to the mirror plate.

It can be placed on a dressing table, mantlepiece, or console to reflect light and add a touch of historical craftsmanship to contemporary spaces.

Silver frames should be cleaned sparingly with a specialised non-abrasive silver cloth, avoiding direct contact with the glass and backing materials to prevent moisture damage.
