Description

A stunning antique French onyx and gilt metal floor lamp. This was made in France, it dates from around the 1920’s.

The quality is outstanding, this has a base made from two different types of onyx, there is also a lovely spherical onyx support beneath the bulb holder. There are amazing gilt metal features at the base and top, with three gilt metal supports flanking the painted white iron lamp stand.

The condition is excellent for its age, with only some extremely minor surface wear here and there. We have had this re-wired, it is in good working order and we have paired it with a modern oatmeal coloured shade.

Width base – 12 inches , 31 cm

Width shade – 18 inches , 46 cm

Height to socket – 57 inches , 145 cm

Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

FAQs

Antique French floor lamps typically incorporate classical architectural motifs, ornate metalwork, and natural stone columns reflecting periods such as Art Nouveau, Belle Epoque, or neoclassical revivals.

Traditional construction frequently combines cast or gilt bronze, brass, or gilt metal with natural carved onyx or marble for structural columns and bases.

Authenticity is identified through period-appropriate wiring methods, hand-chased metal details, natural stone weight and veining, and traditional construction techniques like threaded rods rather than modern welded joints.

Positioning the lamp beside a neutral sofa or in an empty corner introduces vertical interest, metallic warmth, and textural contrast against contemporary minimalism.

Clean surfaces gently with a dry microfibre cloth, avoiding harsh chemical polishes that can strip the gilt finish or damage porous natural stone.
