FAQs

The communion chalice is a consecrated cup used to hold the sacramental wine during the Eucharist, originating from the Last Supper and evolving through various artistic periods in Christian history.

Traditional chalices are typically crafted from sterling silver or precious metals, often featuring hand-hammered bowls, cast stems, chased ornamentation, and sometimes a gilded interior known as vermeil.

Authentic pieces are identified through hallmarks indicating the metal purity, makers marks, assay office stamps, date letters, and evidence of traditional handcrafting techniques rather than modern machine production.

An antique chalice can be displayed as a sculptural object on a bookshelf, mantelpiece, or glass-fronted cabinet, adding a layer of historical interest and metallic sheen to contemporary decor.

Antique silver should be cleaned sparingly using a non-abrasive silver cloth or professional silver dip designed for delicate items, avoiding harsh scrubbing to preserve the natural patina and any original gilding.
