Antique Silver Toothpick Holder.

Description

First-class, early 19th century Portuguese silver toothpick holder/stand; the female subject is in rural dress of the period carrying a harvesting basket on her head. The figure is mounted on a classical column stand, and the detail and craftsmanship of the whole piece is outstanding. This example is of good size and weight; a beautiful dining table accessory and a great conversation piece. These are well collected and not plentiful on the market.

Oporto. 1810 to 1818 (Portuguese hallmarks at this time were displayed in blocks of dates rather then in individual years.) Maker J.A.C - unidentified.
