Victorian coin purses gained immense popularity during the 19th century as portable accessories for carrying loose change, often featuring intricate metalwork and novelty shapes such as shells or animals to reflect contemporary tastes.

These items were typically manufactured from sterling silver or white metal alloys, employing techniques like repousse, chased engraving, and hinged spring mechanisms to ensure both durability and decorative appeal.

Authentic pieces often bear British hallmarks indicating the assay office, metal purity, and date letter, alongside makers marks and characteristic period wear patterns within the interior compartments.

This piece can be displayed on a vanity tray, inside a glass-fronted cabinet, or placed on a side table as a curated decorative object that adds historical texture to contemporary spaces.

Preservation requires storing items in a dry, tarnish-resistant environment and cleaning them sparingly with a soft cloth designed for silver, avoiding harsh chemical dips that can damage intricate engraving.
