These 19th-century Chinese bronze altar vases date from the Qing Dynasty and possess a dark brown patinated finish. Each heavy vessel displays a flared rim, a stepped base, and turned sections along the upright body. Sculpted dragon-shaped handles flank each neck, while low-relief carvings depict birds amidst foliage and floral motifs. An historic auction label appears on the base of one vessel, and the pair retains its original liners alongside minor age-related wear from long use. Measuring 33 cm high by 14 cm wide and 14 cm deep, these substantial pieces weigh 3.6kg together. Their gentleman's library style suits placement upon a sideboard top or display shelving within a traditional interior. They provide an authentic ornamental accent for an entryway table or a study focal point, functioning effectively as decorative containers in a period reception room or library setting.

Traditional Chinese bronze altar vases were crafted for ritual use in temples and domestic shrines, reaching widespread commercial and decorative production during the Qing Dynasty.

These vessels were typically created using lost-wax or piece-mould casting techniques from copper alloys, followed by hand-tooling, chasing, and patination processes.

Authentic pieces display hand-chased surface details, age-appropriate wear to the base, casting line characteristics, and genuine surface patination rather than modern painted finishes.

Interior designers frequently arrange paired bronze vases symmetrically on sideboards, consoles, or mantelpieces to introduce dark textural accents and historical structure to modern rooms.

Dust regularly with a dry microfibre cloth and avoid water or abrasive polishing compounds, applying clear microcrystalline wax occasionally to protect the surface patina.
