A French bead chandelier is a hanging lighting fixture characterised by a metal frame draped with thousands of small glass or crystal beads, typically forming a basket or bag silhouette, popular in early 20th-century interiors.

These fixtures traditionally feature a cast brass, bronze, or gilt metal frame, strung with faceted glass or crystal beads held together by fine wire, terminating in a bottom finial.

Authentic period pieces typically display hand-wired glass strands, patinated brass or bronze metalwork with natural oxidisation, and hand-cut glass beads rather than modern machine-moulded plastic alternatives.

Such fixtures provide a textural focal point when hung in hallways, bedrooms, or above dining tables, contrasting effectively against minimalist architectural backdrops or complementing classic schemes.

Maintenance involves gently wiping individual glass strands with a mild solution of distilled water and isopropyl alcohol using a soft cloth, taking care not to pull on fragile vintage wiring or rusted wire links.
