Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

An Edwardian desk in rosewood presents a kidney-shaped contour in dark brown tones with a brown leather writing surface. The piece incorporates nine drawers, brass drop handles, and marquetry bows and swags inlaid across the drawer fronts and central frieze. Additional visible details include brass castors on the legs and keyhole escutcheons on each drawer. Measuring 138 cm wide, 77.5 cm high, and 61 cm deep, the furniture item provides a functional writing station suitable for a study or a gentleman's library. The proportions accommodate daily use for paperwork or writing tasks while adding a decorative focal point to the room.

FAQs

A kidney-shaped writing desk is a freestanding table featuring a concave front curve designed to allow a user to sit closer to the writing surface while maintaining accessible drawer storage on either side.

Edwardian desks frequently incorporated dark hardwoods such as rosewood, mahogany, and satinwood, paired with gilded leather writing inserts, cast brass handles, and intricate floral marquetry inlays.

Authentic period pieces feature hand-cut or fine machine dovetail drawer joints, original castors, hand-applied wood marquetry, period-correct brass locks, and natural oxidation on unexposed timber areas.

Positioning the desk centrally within a home office or library creates an elegant focal point, complemented by neutral walls, contemporary task lighting, and minimal desktop accessories.

Dust regularly with a soft, dry lint-free cloth, keep timber away from direct sunlight and heat sources to prevent veneer warping, and treat leather inserts with specialised leather nourishers.
