This early 20th century Edwardian club fender combines polished brass and button-tufted burgundy leather in an expanding design. The piece features twin corner seats supported by slender vertical spindles above a stepped, moulded base with triangular corner mounts, joined by a curved rail that terminates at a central ball finial. The telescopic mechanism permits the width to adjust between an outside measurement of 132 cm and 165 cm, while the entire assembly stands 50 cm high and measures 43 cm deep. Ideal for placement around a fireplace hearth in a traditional drawing room, gentleman's library or country house interior, this fireside furnishing provides comfortable seating close to the hearth. The rich red tones of the upholstery contrast with the gleaming metal framework, creating a practical and distinctive accessory for domestic settings.

A club fender is a low hearth surround featuring elevated padded corner seats, developed during the late Victorian and Edwardian eras to provide extra seating near the fireplace in gentlemens clubs and private residences.

Traditional expanding club fenders are crafted from solid or tubular brass mounted on a heavy metal base, fitted with an adjustable central rail and topped with padded corner seats upholstered in leather or heavy fabric.

Authentic period club fenders feature solid brass upright spindles, cast brass base mouldings, central sliding or telescopic expansion bars, and hand-tufted leather upholstery showing age-appropriate wear.

Place the club fender directly around a living room or library fireplace hearth to frame the fire surround while offering functional occasional seating for guests.

Dust the brass frame regularly with a dry microfibre cloth and polish gently if desired, while treating the leather corner cushions with a dedicated leather conditioner to preserve flexibility.
