Vintage 15.22ct Diamond and Platinum Tassel Brooch Circa 1945

1920 - 1940
For Sale by AC Silver
Description

A stunning, fine and impressive vintage 1940s 15.22 carat diamond and platinum tassel brooch; part of our diverse vintage diamond jewellery and estate jewelry collections.

This stunning, fine and impressive diamond brooch has been crafted in platinum.

The vintage brooch has been modelled in the form of a large ribbon bow design.

The upper portion of the brooch bears a three-dimensional splayed arrangement of stranded settings, each ornamented with baguette cut diamonds, terminating with an individually claw set transitional modern brilliant round cut diamonds.

The conical portion protrudes lower, incorporating fourteen further baguette cut diamonds.

The setting is embellished with subtly offset double stranded ribbon designs enveloping the aforementioned portion, creating a lemniscate design and accented with thirty-one channel set baguette cut diamonds.

This platinum diamond brooch is ornamented with three articulating tassel designs, comprised of further channel set baguette cut diamonds and terminating with a claw set 0.51ct, 0.49ct and 0.47ct transitional modern brilliant round cut diamond, completing the design.

The brooch secures to the reverse with a hinged pin and clasp.

This vintage diamond ribbon brooch has been independently tested using state of the art technology (Niton XL2 Analyzer) and verified as platinum.

This impressive diamond brooch is supplied with three IDGL diamond grading report certificates for the feature stones, in addition to an IDGL diamond grading report card for the supporting stones.

The goldsmith has selected a stunning combination of evenly matched diamonds and this three-dimensional brooch is one of the finest of its type you could hope to acquire.

The 1940s diamond tassel brooch in platinum combines elegant movement with the enduring brilliance of diamonds. The flowing tassel motif adds a sense of graceful movement and femininity, creating a distinctive accessory that can beautifully adorn a tailored jacket, evening gown, silk scarf or elegant coat. As diamonds are also the birthstone for April and the traditional gemstone associated with the 60th wedding anniversary, this vintage platinum brooch carries additional sentimental importance for such events.

Images do not always reflect the true colour and brilliance of gemstones and diamonds. The video however provides a truer representation of the actual colour and showcases each stone.

Condition

This stunning brooch is exceptional quality, set with stunning feature diamonds displaying a fine white colour, brilliance and presence.

The supporting diamonds display a fine white colour and brilliance.

This vintage brooch dates from 1940 and belongs to the Retro style. The piece takes the form of a large ribbon bow design set in silver-coloured platinum, embellished with baguette-cut diamonds and round brilliant diamond accents. The upper portion holds a three-dimensional arrangement of stranded settings with baguette diamonds and claw-set transitional modern brilliant round-cut diamonds, alongside a conical portion with fourteen further baguette-cut diamonds and double-stranded ribbon designs. Three articulating tassel designs complete the lower structure, using channel-set baguette-cut diamonds and terminating in claw-set round brilliant diamonds, while the reverse secures with a hinged pin and clasp. Measuring 1.19 cm high, 4.2 cm wide and 6.7 cm deep, the brooch is worn pinned to clothing. In a home today, it functions as a wearable accessory to adorn a tailored jacket, evening gown, silk scarf or elegant coat, and serves as a gift for an April birthday or a 60th wedding anniversary.

Jewellery from the 1940s Retro period is recognised for bold, sculptural, and three-dimensional forms inspired by ribbons, scrolls, and tassels. Metalwork from this era often combines fluid curves with structured arrangements of baguette and round-cut diamonds.

Mid-century brooches of this calibre are typically constructed from platinum or high-karat gold to provide structural integrity for gem setting. They prominently feature hand-set diamonds, including baguette, marquise, and round brilliant cuts arranged in tiered configurations.

Authentic pieces feature period-correct platinum hallmarks, hand-finished gallery work on the reverse, and secure double-pin or trombone mechanisms. The diamond cuts often display hand-faceted geometric baguette shapes set in channel or claw mounts characteristic of the decade.

A large diamond brooch can be fastened to the lapel of a tailored blazer, secured at the neckline of an evening gown, or worn to pin a silk scarf. It can also be attached to a velvet sash or styled as a hair accent for formal occasions.

Clean platinum and diamond pieces using warm water with mild dish soap and a soft-bristled brush to remove dust and oils. Have the claw settings and safety clasps inspected annually by a jeweller, and store the piece separately in a lined box to prevent abrasion.
