This pair of antique Japanese Imari chargers dates to 1920 and follows the traditional Japanese Imari style. Formed from porcelain, the pieces have a glazed enamel finish decorated with cobalt blue, rust red, green, white, and gold leaf. The surface displays intricate floral reserve panels, scrolling foliage, birds, and a central vase motif, complemented by raised detailing, scalloped borders, and gilded accents. Each charger measures 5.5 cm high by 46 cm wide and 46 cm deep. In a contemporary home, these decorative plates and chargers suit placement on a sideboard top to bring an English Country House aesthetic to a dining room, living area, or hallway. The vibrant palette and detailed motifs create a striking display when positioned together on a flat surface.

Imari porcelain refers to Japanese export ceramics produced in the Arita region and shipped from the port of Imari, characterized by underglaze cobalt blue and overglaze iron-red enamels with gilded embellishments.

These chargers are crafted from kaolin-rich porcelain clay fired at high temperatures, featuring hand-painted cobalt blue underglaze patterns and secondary overglaze enamel brushwork.

Authentic pieces display hand-painted irregularities, subtle spur marks on the underside from kiln firing, heavy porcelain bodies, and characteristic iron-red and cobalt blue colour combinations.

Place the chargers symmetrically on a sideboard top using display stands, or hang them on a wall surface to create a focal point against contemporary neutral backdrops.

Dust regularly with a dry microfibre cloth and clean gently using lukewarm water and gentle soap when necessary, avoiding abrasive materials or immersion to protect surface gilding.
