This Persian tribal vanity-bag originates from the nomadic Afshar weavers of Kerman Province in South Persia, dating to approximately 1920. Handwoven from wool, the square piece displays a detailed geometric design featuring a central diamond medallion and a cross motif rendered in cream, dark blue, and terracotta red. Stepped borders enclose the central field, while wrapped yellow and red overcast edges frame the composition, complemented by blue and white patterned guard stripes. Visible wear includes slight fraying along the top edge of the textile. Measuring 16 cm high by 16 cm wide, the bag possesses compact dimensions well-suited for display in domestic settings. In a modern interior, collectors and enthusiasts of tribal textiles frequently position small pieces like this vanity-bag on a bookshelf as a decorative accent or store them inside curiosity cabinets alongside other vintage Persian artifacts. The tactile quality of the wool pile and the intricate arrangement of geometric motifs bring authentic nomadic artistry into living spaces, studies, or libraries. Placing the bag flat on a shelf or mounting it for wall display highlights the traditional craftsmanship and vibrant natural-dye colour palette typical of early twentieth-century southern Persian tribal weaving traditions.

Afshar vanity bags are small handwoven tribal textiles crafted by nomadic and semi-nomadic Afshar weavers in South Persia, traditionally used to store personal items and cosmetics.

These pieces are handwoven using hand-spun wool for both the pile and structural foundation, naturally dyed with plant and mineral sources to produce rich indigo blues and madder reds.

Authentic Afshar weavings are characterised by dense knotting, vibrant vegetable-dyed colour palettes, geometric diamond medallions, and heavy selvedge wrapping along the edges.

Small woven bag faces can be mounted and framed as wall art, positioned on flat surfaces such as shelves or sideboards, or displayed on custom metal stands to highlight their texture and geometric patterning.

Display wool textiles away from direct sunlight to prevent colour fading, vacuum gently without a rotating brush, handle with clean hands, and ensure protection from carpet beetle larvae and moths.
