Three Scottish Provincial Paisley Silver Teaspoons

19th century
Description

A rare trio of silver teaspoons from a Scottish Provincial Assay Office. These lovely Georgian examples are in Old English pattern with a Celtic tip.

To the backs the Maker's mark is struck three times and appears to be I.I, suggesting that the maker is Lindsay Luke of Paisley.

Certain spoons are getting scarce nowadays, due to the great losses caused by the unscrupulous melting of antique silver for scrap and sadly, flatware is one of it's biggest victims. A set of three from one of the rarer Assay Offives is a good find for the collector. Dimensions below.

This trio of Regency Scottish Provincial silver teaspoons from Paisley dates to around 1810. The set comprises three Old English pattern spoons featuring a distinctive Celtic tip and a bright reflective metallic finish against a textured white fabric background. The polished bowls show clean outlines while the long narrow stems display subtle tapering towards the terminal ends. Maker marks are struck three times on the reverses. The spoons measure 14.7 cm high, 2.8 cm wide, and 1 cm deep. These pieces work well as a display collection within a traditional dining room or period kitchen setting, suitable for presentation in a glass fronted cabinet or storage in a silver chest. They also serve functionally for afternoon tea service or dessert use on formal dining occasions.
