Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This 1930 vintage brass fire companion stand, styled in the Victorian tradition with a Highland hunting lodge design vibe, is finished in a warm, polished brass colour. The cast brass piece incorporates an integrated drip tray base decorated with relief motifs of a resting hunting dog, a hare, and intricate foliate scrollwork, alongside crossed rifles detail on the central vertical stem, and holds a complete set of matching fire irons including tongs, a shovel, and a poker with turned ridged finials on ribbed handles. The stand measures 56 cm high, 32 cm wide, and 26 cm deep. Suitably versatile, the piece functions equally well as an umbrella and walking stick stand or a fireside companion stand beside the front door or hearth. The sturdy construction rests on four ornate paw feet, while the sculptural upright frame provides secure upright storage for the included tools or walking sticks within a domestic interior setting.

FAQs

Originating in the nineteenth century, stick stands were placed in entrance halls to hold walking sticks, riding crops, and umbrellas, preventing moisture from dripping onto timber flooring.

These pieces were typically cast in solid brass or iron, often featuring heavy weighted bases or removable drip trays to catch rainwater and provide stability.

Authentic period pieces exhibit crisp relief casting, hand-chased surface details, natural oxidisation in low points, and structural seams or threaded fixings consistent with traditional foundry techniques.

Position the piece near an entryway or beside a hearth to add historical texture, using it to store vintage walking canes or fireplace implements to create an intriguing focal point.

Dust regularly with a dry, soft cloth and avoid harsh chemical cleaners that strip historical patina. A gentle application of microcrystalline wax preserves the surface depth and protects against moisture.
