This Victorian jardiniere originates from 1890 in the English Country House style, formed from brass with a warm gold finish and a polished surface. The vessel takes a rounded, bowl-like form with an ornate rim and stands raised on three cast paw feet. Decorative detailing includes gadrooned side fluting around the lower body, an upper collar of rhythmic thumbprint moulding, and twin lion mask handles fitted with hanging rings. A visible repair marks the metal rim near the upper edge. The piece measures 19 cm high, 36 cm wide, and 28 cm deep. Positioned within a contemporary interior, the jardiniere sits suitably atop a sideboard, console table, or deep window sill to display indoor plants, ferns, or floral arrangements. The metallic finish and classic animal motifs complement traditional living rooms, hallways, or dining spaces, adding period character alongside functional greenery display.

A brass jardiniere is a decorative metal basin or vessel designed to hold indoor potted plants or floral displays, widely popularised during the nineteenth century.

Traditional brass jardinieres were constructed using sheet or cast brass, often embellished with hand-hammered repousse work, gadrooned fluting, cast brass handles, and decorative paw feet.

Authentic period pieces often exhibit cast metal fittings, construction seams along the interior, natural patination on unpolished surfaces, and period-specific decorative motifs such as lion masks.

A brass jardiniere can be styled on a sideboard, mantelpiece, or deep window sill containing indoor foliage, providing warm metallic contrast against contemporary timber or painted surfaces.

Dust regularly with a soft microfibre cloth, polish with a specialised metal cleaner if a bright finish is desired, and use a removable internal liner to protect the metal from soil moisture.
