This Dutch/Flemish Renaissance Revival jardiniere dates from circa 1920. Fashioned from warm gold brass, the piece exhibits an embossed heraldic crest and pictorial relief alongside gadrooned rim detailing, three lion mask ring handles, and a fixed tripod stand formed of cast dolphin feet. The surface holds a lacquered finish that requires no polishing, and the construction shows no cracks or restorations. Measuring 38 cm high by 30 cm wide and 30 cm deep, the jardiniere sits suitably atop a sideboard in a living room, dining room, or hallway. The vessel functions practically as an indoor planter or ornamental centrepiece for contemporary interiors.

Dinanderie refers to the historical metalworking craft originating in Dinant, Belgium, characterised by beaten, hammered, and embossed brass or copper vessels produced from the medieval period onwards.

Traditional brass jardinieres are constructed using cast brass components for structural elements like legs and handles, combined with hand-hammered or chased sheet brass for decorative bowl relief.

Authentic pieces display signs of hand-chasing, hand-riveted or soldered joins, uneven patination inside the vessel, and significant weight in cast structural elements.

A brass jardiniere functions as a sculptural centrepiece on a sideboard, console table, or deep window sill, styled either empty or filled with dried botanicals.

Regular dusting with a soft, lint-free cloth maintains the surface, while a non-abrasive metal polish applied sparingly can restore brightness without stripping surface detailing.
