This pair of French Chateau style wall lights dates from 1930 and originates from France. Each fixture comprises a gilt metal and toleware frame finished in gold, embellished with metallic leaf foliage, floral candle bobeches, and numerous faceted crystal drops suspended from branches and upper scrollwork. Three faux candle sleeves house standard fittings, complemented by curved arms and an openwork leaf-form top finial. Each light measures 42 cm high, 38 cm wide, and 20 cm deep, providing balanced illumination. Suitable for interior placement in homes today, these light fixtures mount easily onto narrow wall spaces in living rooms, hallways, or dining areas. They function effectively as accent lighting alongside mirrors or architectural features, bringing a decorative French Chateau aesthetic to traditional and contemporary interior schemes alike.

Toleware refers to lacquered or painted metalwork that was popularised across France in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, often featuring leaf and floral motifs finished with gilded surfaces.

These lighting fixtures are typically constructed from hand-shaped sheet metal, iron, or brass, finished with gold leaf or gilt paint, and adorned with glass or crystal pendeloque drops.

Authentic pieces display evidence of hand-soldered metal joints, subtle surface oxidisation, layered gilded patination, and era-appropriate electrical or candle socket fittings.

Mount these decorative sconces against neutral backdrop walls, alongside contemporary artwork, or flanking a mantelpiece to create balanced visual texture between historic metalwork and modern lines.

Dust surfaces regularly using a soft, dry microfibre cloth; avoid water or abrasive chemical liquids on gilt metalwork, and clean glass drops separately with a diluted glass cleaner.
