This William IV bureau bookcase from circa 1840 is constructed from dark brown mahogany with satinwood inlay and brass hardware. The upper section comprises a pair of panelled doors set beneath a moulded cornice, accompanied by carved spandrels in the upper corners. Below sits a slant-front writing slope decorated with a central classical urn marquetry inlay, positioned above two short and three long graduated drawers fitted with ornate drop handles and escutcheons. The base stands on shaped bracket feet. The dimensions are 226 cm high, 115 cm wide, and 57 cm deep. In a home today, this piece serves as a sophisticated storage and writing desk combination. It is well suited for a study, home office, or living room, providing enclosed shelving for books or display in the upper cabinet alongside a practical workspace and extensive drawer storage below.

A William IV bureau bookcase is a two-part item of case furniture dating from the 1830s, featuring a slanted fall-front writing surface over drawers, topped by a tall enclosed cabinet for books or display.

These pieces were typically constructed from solid mahogany or mahogany veneers over pine or oak framing, often decorated with satinwood marquetry inlays and fitted with brass handles.

Authentic period examples display hand-cut dovetail joints on the drawers, original brass hardware, period-appropriate timber shrinkage marks, and hand-carved or inlaid decorative motifs.

A large bureau bookcase functions as a focal piece in a home office, library, or formal living room, pairing well with contemporary upholstered seating and understated neutral decor.

Dust surfaces regularly with a soft lint-free cloth, apply natural beeswax polish annually to protect the wood finish, and keep the item away from direct radiators and prolonged sunlight.
