This Victorian Naturalism candelabra centrepiece originates from around 1880, executed in silver plate and EPNS with a bright silver finish. Modelled as a stylised palm tree or plant form, the piece features a central column decorated with layered foliage and ferns, a central glass dish at the top, and three scrolling foliate branches terminating in leaf cup candle holders with naturalistic detailing. The whole stands upon an ornate Rococo revival base adorned with scrolling acanthus, shell motifs, pierced and cast decoration, and scroll feet, showing a beautiful contrast between the crisp silvered finish and darker undertones in the recesses. The item measures 58.4 cm high, 38.1 cm wide, and 38.1 cm deep in practical terms. Placed on a dining table centre, it functions as a striking decorative candelabra and botanical sculpture in a home interior setting today.

FAQs

A silver plate palm tree candelabra is a multi-armed candle holder constructed from base metal coated in pure silver, featuring naturalistic foliage inspired by nineteenth-century exoticism.

These pieces are created using electrodeposition to coat nickel silver or copper with a thin layer of silver, with cast decorative elements assembled into multi-branch structures.

Authentic nineteenth-century electroplated items feature maker stamps or hallmarks near the base, along with standard trade markings such as EPNS or Sheffield maker marks.

Position the piece as a dining table or sideboard focal point alongside neutral linen textiles and plain glassware to highlight the detailed sculptural metalwork.

Clean gently with a soft microfibre cloth and specialized non-abrasive silver polish to clean tarnish without stripping the underlying plating layer.
