This very large French Empire style ceiling light dates from the 1930 Art Deco period. It consists of a cylindrical column and a wide cascading lower tier constructed from chains of hand cut faceted clear glass beads supported by a polished silver coloured chrome frame. The metalwork forms a quatrefoil top and a larger lower frame strung with similar beads, illuminated by 18 candle bulbs. The structure measures 69 cm in height and 51 cm in width. Suitable for placement in a grand hallway, dining room, or living space, this fixture provides strong illumination and a distinct vintage aesthetic. The combination of reflective glass elements and metallic framing suits period interiors or spaces requiring a striking central light source.

French Empire style Art Deco chandeliers combine the structured, geometric shapes of 1920s design with the cascading, tent-and-waterfall silhouettes popularised during the 19th-century French Empire period. They feature densely strung crystal beads and faceted glass drops arranged in dramatic vertical columns or expanding concentric tiers.

These lighting fixtures generally consist of cut crystal or molded glass beads strung on wire armatures, supported by a framework of silvered brass, nickel-plated steel, or bronze. The metal elements are engineered to bear structural weight while maintaining a slim profile that maximises light refraction.

Authentic period pieces exhibit signs of hand-assembled wirework, minor variations in crystal bead cutting, and age-appropriate oxidisation on the internal metal frame. Original electrical fittings, where preserved, usually feature cast metal bulb sockets rather than modern thermoplastic components.

A large tiered chandelier serves as a primary architectural anchor when suspended in a grand entryway, dining area, or high-ceilinged living space. In contemporary schemes, the contrast between historic cut glass and clean modern architecture creates a balanced focal point.

Dusting should be performed regularly using a soft feather duster or dry microfibre cloth. For deeper cleaning, individual crystal strands are wiped with a mild solution of isopropyl alcohol and distilled water, ensuring moisture does not saturate the internal wiring or corrode the structural metal pins.
