This is an Art Deco cocktail shaker from the 1930s, designed by Lawson Clarke for Wilson & Gill. The piece is formed from green Bakelite with silver-plated metal hardware, comprising a pull-off lid, a rotating recipe dial window displaying eight drinks with their ingredients, a ribbed collar, a stepped shoulder, a silver-plated ribbed band around the middle, a capped pouring spout, an inner removable grille, and a 1 gill measurement engraved inside the lid. Signs of age include wear to the plating. Measuring 28.5 cm high, this item is placed on top of a sideboard for display and entertaining in a dining room, living room, or home bar setting during cocktail preparation.

During the 1930s, cocktail shakers evolved into functional barware incorporating rotating sleeves or window dials displaying cocktail recipes alongside modernist design elements.

Mid-1930s cocktail shakers frequently combined early mouldable plastics such as Bakelite or Catalin with electroplated nickel silver for lightweight bodies and durable metallic accents.

Original period pieces feature moulding seams, authentic metal electroplating wear, specific weight characteristics, and appropriate chemical reactions under gentle friction.

These functional objects are frequently displayed on a brass bar cart, a timber sideboard tray, or alongside period glass drinkware in a dining room setting.

Clean gently by hand using warm water and mild soap, avoiding harsh abrasive cleaners on the plastic body while keeping metallic components dry to prevent oxidation.
