This old Yomut Turkmen rug dates from the period around 1930 and belongs to the Turkmen style. It is made from wool, showing a deep red background colour with navy, ivory, and brown tones in the pattern. The piece features a dense repeating lattice design filled with geometric gols, arranged across the field and enclosed by multiple detailed border bands. Additional visible details include the tight weave, firm handle, even wear, medium to low pile, and fringe finishes along both ends. The rug measures 156 cm high, 109 cm wide, and 1 cm deep. In a home today, this rug is suitable for normal domestic use such as a fireside rug or in an entrance hallway. It adds traditional warmth and texture to living spaces like a gentleman's library or study. The wool construction provides durability underfoot, while the classic motifs and rich colour palette complement traditional and transitional interior schemes alike.

Yomut Turkmen rugs are traditional hand-knotted textiles created by the Yomut tribe, one of the primary nomadic groups of Central Asia. These carpets are distinguished by their deep red, mahogany, or terracotta fields and structured geometric repeating patterns such as gols or diamond lattice grids.

Turkmen rugs are woven almost exclusively from hand-spun wool for both the pile and the foundation. Dyes were historically derived from natural plant and mineral sources, producing deep red shades from madder root alongside navy blue, brown, and ivory accents.

Authentic pieces exhibit hand-knotted construction with minor variations in symmetry and knot density visible on the reverse side. They feature characteristic tribal iconography, dense wool pile, multi-banded borders, and soft natural colour variations known as abrash.

A geometric Turkmen rug provides visual grounding in modern spaces when placed beneath neutral furniture. The strong repeating lattice pattern pairs effectively with dark wood cabinetry, leather upholstery, or modern minimalist backdrop schemes.

Vacuum regularly using suction only to avoid catching the wool pile on beater bars. Clean spills immediately by blotting with a dry cloth, use a quality underlay pad to prevent wear, and arrange professional cleaning by a specialist textile restorer when required.
