Description

A superb Art Deco figured walnut dressing table. This was made in England, it dates from the 1930’s.

The quality is outstanding, this has a stylish and practical design. The base has lots of storage space with each side containing two drawers, a deep cabinet and also a narrow cabinet. There is a removable glass shelf, the side mirrors can be adjusted and locked into place.

We have had this stripped and re-polished to a very high standard, the condition is superb for its age. There is just some incredibly minor historical wear remaining here and there beneath the polish.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Art Deco design, prominent during the 1920s and 1930s, is characterised by sleek geometric shapes, stylised motifs, and the lavish use of exotic veneers such as figured walnut and burr maple.

Craftsmen typically utilised solid secondary woods like mahogany or oak as a structural base, applying highly figured decorative wood veneers like walnut across the exterior surfaces, often complemented by glass tops and brass or plastic hardware.

Authentication involves examining the construction methods, such as dovetail joints in the drawers, the quality of the veneer matching, traditional backings, and historical hardware consistent with the interwar period.

Pairing the piece with minimalist modern seating, neutral wall backdrops, and metallic accents allows the rich grain and geometric silhouette of the vintage furniture to serve as a focal point.

Preservation requires avoiding direct sunlight and excessive humidity fluctuations to prevent veneer cracking, cleaning only with a soft, dry cloth, and occasionally applying microcrystalline wax to nourish the wood.
