Description

A smart and extremely well made pair of antique Georgian style burr walnut chests of drawers. They were made in England, they date from around the 1930’s.

The quality is fantastic and they are a very useful size. They are fairly tall and slim, meaning they take up very little room and offer plenty of storage space. The walnut has stunning grain patterns with a gorgeous colour tone and patina, the drawers have brass handles and the chests stand on cabriole legs with shell carving at the knees.

We have had them stripped and re-polished, the condition is excellent for their age.

Width – 22 inches , 56 cm

Depth – 16 inches , 41 cm

We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Georgian style spans the reigns of the first four Georges, characterised by classical proportions, symmetry, and a transition from heavy walnut to refined mahogany and burr veneers.

Cabinet makers typically utilised solid secondary woods like pine or oak for carcass framing, overlaid with high-value decorative veneers such as burr walnut, secured with traditional animal glues and dovetail joints.

Authenticity is assessed through hand-cut dovetailing, timber shrinkage patterns, oxidisation of the internal woods, and the presence of period-appropriate hardware and fixings.

Placing traditional wooden furniture against neutral, modern walls creates a striking focal point that adds architectural depth and textural warmth to a room.

Maintain stable indoor humidity levels away from direct sunlight and heat sources, and periodically treat surfaces with traditional beeswax to nourish the timber.
